Peabody High School band was notified that it was the only band to be ranked 1A at the Kansas State Fair, held last month in Hutchinson, out of 60 to 70 bands that marched.

A big step forward in restoring the two downtown buildings damaged by fire was accomplished by a large group of volunteers last week. The local bank is providing a no-interest loan.

Rudi and Ann Penner of rural Peabody will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 14 at Emmaus Mennonite Church in rural Whitewater.
