2016 pet tags pandemonium gets off the leash

Staff writer

The city of Peabody began selling 2016 pet tags for dogs and cats Dec. 1. However, with the New Year comes increased pressure on pet owners to get them before a 5 p.m. Feb. 1 deadline.

Pet tags are $5 for each spayed or neutered animal and $10 for each pet that has not been neutered. Proof of current vaccinations also is required at the time of tag purchase.

“After the Feb. 1 deadline, a late fee is tacked on to the tag charge,” clerk Stephanie Lago said. “That amount is $15 per pet.”

Anyone without tags for pets after that date is subject to being ticketed, which could result in a fine and court costs.

“It really is smart just to purchase the tag this month,” Lago said.

Questions may be directed to the office staff at the city building by calling (620) 983-2174.
