Around 75 Marion-Florence school district patrons attended a public meeting Monday at Marion Middle School to discuss a bond issue that would bring a new pool, gymnasium, and auditorium to the district. The project will happen only if voters approve it during an April 4 election.

Seniors Jeff Richmond and Emalee Versch were named this week as Marion High School students of the month for January.

Terry Vinduska of Marion recently visited Cuba as a member of the board of directors of U.S. Grains Council. The U.S. delegation traveled to Mexico from Cuba, meeting with government leaders, grain traders, and large feed mill operators.

Winners of the 2005 Marion County conservation awards are Ronald and Dora Unruh, Durham, continuation award; Robert McVey, Peabody, wildlife; Merlyn Entz, Peabody, young conservation farmer; George and Charlene Svitak, Pilsen, bankers’ award; and Lauren and Luetta Enns, Hillsboro, grass buffer award.

Tiger Cubs competed Jan. 29 in Marion’s annual Pinewood Derby. Top finishers were William Holt, first; Bryce Shults, second; and Jimi Dornbush, third.

Wrestler Charlie Holub, sophomore at Marion High School, is this week’s “Athlete of the Week.”
