Another old Marion “landmark” is being eliminated. The old A.D. Billings stone residence, better known in late years as the Ekeler place, is being torn down to make room for Mr. John Powers’ handsome new home. Levi Billings laid the stone in that structure fifty years ago. It was laid in lime mortar, before the day of cement, but it has stood the test of time.

Officers at Florence the last of the week caught a fellow in the act of making corn whiskey. He had a crude still made out of a milk can with coils which it is said had a capacity of about a quart an hour. He was caught red-handed and had no escape.

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Sheldon have bought lots between the Keller and Mullen homes on the hill and expect to build a bungalow there this summer.

The McCullough Filling Station and the Mutual Filling Station were broken into Wednesday night and a small amount of money taken from each place. Bert McCullough is looking mighty downcast today over the loss at his place, amounting to sixty-four cents. In their haste the thieves dropped three pennies on the floor. Fifty-some cents were taken from the cash register at the Mutual station.

The first pilgrimage of gold star mothers overseas to visit the graves of their sons will begin about June 1, when 100 women of the American Mothers’ organization will sail for France on Steamship American. In France the mothers will be guests of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Paris Post of the American Legion.

We note in the Tampa Times that the post office at that place was made an office of the third class on the first of April. Tampa is to be congratulated on its growth.
