Jacob Keller said, “When I came to Peabody in the fall of ’70, I went into the freighting business. All that winter I hauled freight from Emporia to Peabody at about $.75 for 100 pounds. I used a team of horses and a wagon and there were no bridges. We had to ford the creeks — all that winter I slept in the open under blankets.”

Corrine Holmberg and Bernice Heath entertained a company of their friends at a four course 7 p.m. dinner Friday evening at Miss Holmberg’s home. The house was beautifully decorated with hearts, kewpies, and darts. The tables were decorated with kewpies fishing from ponds. The dainty kewpies were favors for the guests. After dinner, the young folks enjoyed a game of darts. Among the many guests attending were Irene Jessen, Marion Westbrook, and Dorothy Bauslin.
