Youngsters enjoy presentation at Peabody library
What band has strings and a rhythm section? It played Tuesday at the Peabody Township Library when musician Thad Beach brought his "band in a bucket" and taught several Peabody children to play some of his homemade instruments.
They performed "A Refrigerator on My Knee" using a bucket bass, tin can drums, a washboard, one string, and several shakers.
In addition, the audience enjoyed several of Beach's original compositions. They were able to help out with singing and doing the actions to "The Polka-Dot Café" and "Looking for My Cat."
Beach's presentation was one of the events of the summer reading program.
It was supported by the library and Peabody Elementary School PTO. More than 30 children and several adults attended the performance.
There are two summer reading sessions left at the library. It is not too late to join in for stories, snacks, and activities at 10 a.m. July 22 and 29.
The next special presentation is 7 p.m. July 31. Everyone is invited to come enjoy the performance of "Dan Dan, the Magic Man."
