You'd laugh too

There are people in one local business having way too much fun on most days. It makes me a little nervous to see all their smiling faces. No group should be involved in that much hilarity, in my most humble opinion. I'm thinking of offering them the names of a couple of grouches and whiners they could invite to join them, just to even things out a little.

This bunch is mostly male and mostly older than middle age. They are members of the Geezer Group at Food Mart. I thought about calling them the Liar's Club, but I think that name is taken by a downtown entity and I hate to step on any toes. We would probably be safe calling them the Executive Liar's Club however. I think they probably tell bigger whoppers and woofers than the downtown bunch.

I frequent Food Mart daily. I like the proprietor and her assistants. They are cheerful and friendly and they take no sass. I admire that. Between them and the Geezer Group there is always the expectation of . . . well . . . the unexpected. As a result I sneak in there now and then for drink refills, gas, ice, gum, gossip, whatever. Sometimes I just want to see what is going on. Sometimes I need a good laugh. Sometimes I go simply to be amazed.

They spend a good deal of time laughing and sharing a fine round of outrageous tales, plots, jokes, and generally humorous fiction. Luckily most of them don't have jobs at which they are expected to appear. Their wives probably haven't thought they were funny for decades and their kids have heard all their stories. They are an unlikely bunch, many of whom have never been regulars at any other watering hole.

I don't have a firm opinion about the Geezers. I wouldn't dream of telling them in print or in person what I think. Not that there is a chance they would listen anyway. I just think they are about practiced enough to either take their act on the road or become the North End Tourist Attraction and I wanted you all to know.

They seem to like one another, they are all in on the joke, and they all enjoy the punch line. And they are having a darn good time. Not a bad way to spend a chunk of the day.
