Because the Florence baseball club doesn't think the Marion County League is fast enough for them, it has decided to withdraw from the league and play independent baseball this season. The announcement came Monday when Robert English took over the management of the club, and announced his decision to withdraw from the county league. After playing at Hope Sunday, when the locals defeating the Hope club 15 to 0, and seeing some of the other clubs of the county league play, Mr. English doesn't think the Florence fans, who have been in the habit of seeing faster baseball, will stand for such baseball here as the contenders in the county league will give Florence.

The Tale of Shabbytown — It was a pretty little village when it first came into being, but that was when everything was new. But somehow or other, nobody seemed to care much about keeping it so. When approached on the subject, they always said: "We're so busy building a bigger town that we can't stop every little while to Clean-Up and Paint-Up." But the funny part of it was the town failed to grow. It just stood stationary, and folks who came there visiting, with an eye to settling down, or opening a store, or building a factory, shook their heads and kept moving.
