Six Florence boys had a thrilling experience early Tuesday evening when the Chevrolet sedan belonging to June Williams, in which they were going to Walton, ran into the rear of a car stopped in the center of the highway near Walton. In the party were Maynard Williams, Everett Robinson, Eddie Davis, Dale Forren, Charles Vaughn, and Roger Wagar. The boys were going to Walton to play and attend the basketball game between the locals and the Walton schools. When within a half-mile of Walton, they ran into a big red touring car that was stopped in the center of the road with no lights on. In attempting to pass the touring car, the Chevrolet turned over three times, breaking the windshield, tearing the top off and otherwise damaging the Chevrolet. However, other than slight bruises, the six boys escaped what otherwise might have proved serious injury.
Work was started Monday morning on the building of the new filling station at the northeast corner of Main and Fifth streets, by the Skelly Oil Company. This corner was leased some time ago by the Skelly from Frank Ireland.
