The fire department was called to Red's Service Station on the hill Monday night to extinguish a fire which was discovered on the roof. The new truck made it possible to fight the fire even though a hydrant was not available and the fire was extinguished before too much damage had occured.
At the regular meeting of the Florence Chamber of Commerce Monday night Dr. John C. Slifer, chairman of the beautification committee announced that a $100 grand prize would be offered in the beautification contest. This is in addition to prizes in the various division aggregating $150 which were previously announced. This grand prize is made available through Karl Gaston and the Mayflower Theater. Dr. Slifer pointed out that a benefit picture show would be held sometime in April by Mr. Gaston and the proceeds would be used for the grand prize.
