Florence's town team won its first round game in the Burns Invitational Tournament at Burns Monday night of this week, defeating Burns 36-31. Wednesday night Florence will play Skelly Oilers at 6:30 and the winner of this game will be in the semi-finals against the winner of the Peabody-Whitewater game at 9 p.m. Thursday.
Carolyn Shipman was eight years old last Friday and treated the class to ice cream and lollipops.
Spike, the black cocker spaniel, provided many laughs on the playground this week. He had his own ideas about fielding. He would get the ball with his teeth and run away with it as fast as he could go, with the players of one team in hot pursuit. Meanwhile the batter would round the bases toward home plate before the opposing team could get their hands on the ball. Spike really had fun.
