Several people made a special trip to Florence last Saturday to ride on the last run of the "Doodlebug" which started its last run from Florence at 1:45. J. Z. Wiebe of Marion who rode on the train in 1879 when it made its first run northwest from Florence also took a ride when the train made its last run. He was 10 years old in 1879.
August Lalouette, Florence, draws comment in the June Capper's Farmer for his steel-panel calf creep. "Calves aren't pushed around by larger animals while they eat from feeders on Lalouette's Ranch," says the nationally circulated farm magazine, "Using his welding outfit and old piping, Lalouette made 20-foot square creep pens to surround each self-feeder. A gate at one end allows entrance to fill the feeders. Every other upright in the panels is held in position by a clamp and can be moved to allow larger calves to enter."
