The May meeting of the Jayhawks 4-H Club was held in the old gym. It was parents' night and the old folks had the meeting. Dewy Stevens opened the meeting with everyone saying the pledge of allegiance and the 4-H Pledge. Roll call was answered by telling your age. A short business meeting was held and it was discussed about the club helping clean up the town after the races. 4-H Sunday also was discussed. It was voted to give each 4-H'er five dollars to go to camp. Ronnie and Matt Wineinger, Linda Robinson, and Cindy Stevens are the ones going from this club. The program started with Earl Wineinger leading in a song. Bev Robinson gave a demonstration on how to use a fresh pineapple. Jane Stevens had a project talk. Dale Wealand had recreation. Refreshments were furnished by the Howard Wealands.
A simultaneous, nationwide ringing of bells on July Fourth will herald the country's entrance into its third century. Communities, churches, schools, fire departments, universities, and individuals will toll bells and carillons in conjunction with the ringing of the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia at 2 p.m. (EDST). The time selected is exactly 200 years from the precise moment that the Liberty Bell proclaimed the independence of the new nation.
