Jack Meierdicks, Santa Fe bill clerk at this place, is the earliest riser in Kansas, besides having the most pluck. He lives six miles in the country and boards at home, except the midday meal. He gets up in the morning, does his chores, eats breakfast, drives the six miles, puts his horse away and gets to work by 7 o'clock. After his day's work is done he goes over the same ground. He does this in all seasons and during all kinds of weather. We doubt if there is another man in the state with like pluck.

J.E. Wright, representing the McPherson Telephone Company, was in Florence, Tuesday, arranging to extend the line to this city. The telephone now reaches as far east as Canton. Arrangements have already been perfected to bring the line to Marion, and it is reasonable certain it will come to Florence and Peabody. The towns of Florence, Marion, Peabody and Hillsboro, in this county, will have telephone communication.
