June 10, 1898

The city council met Tuesday night and transacted considerable business; among which they voted to purchase a 65-foot steel flag pole and a 10x20 flag; also that the rock broken by the tramps should be used in macadamizing Third street from Main to Corle's office. The Mayor ordered the cemetery mowed and the sidewalks cleaned of weeds.

The 21st Regiment of Kansas Volunteers, stationed at Chickamauga, has a pet pig for their mascot which they have named Dewey. Putnam Yeck writes to his father here that all of the Marion county boys are well and anxious to be near the Spaniards.
