The recruiting officer at Fort Leavenworth is overrun with applicants for enlistment in the War With Spain. They are arriving from all the big cities of the west and from the farms. Before a recruit is examined he has to present letters from two people vouching for his character. All recruits have to take a bath at the guard house before the regular army surgeons examine them at the post hospital.
The city council met in regular session Monday night. Mayor Griffiths and Councilmen Case, Jones, and Whitcroft were present. T. P. Alexander was allowed the contract for furnishing the chain for the new hitching posts.
The United States Congress today passed a bill to ratify and confirm an agreement with the Comanche, Kiowa, and Apache tribes of Indians in Oklahoma territory and to open their reservation for settlement.
