Miss Rebekah Ruth Zook, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ramon Zook, celebrated her second birthday on April 29. Cake and ice cream were served by the honoree and her parents to: Miss Mashawn Loewen, aunt; John Slifer, uncle; Lindley Slifer, uncle; Dr. and Mrs. John Slifer, paternal grandparents; and Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Edmonds, McPherson, great aunt and uncle.
A potluck supper was held at the United Methodist Church on Sunday evening. The event was to honor the two graduating seniors of the church who are: Karen Stevens, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dewy Stevens and Diane O'Dell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Delano O'Dell. After a bountiful meal, Linda Allison recognized Karen Stevens with a gift. Diane O'Dell was unable to attend.

This week at the Mayflower Theater: Thunder in the East with Alan Ladd, Lydia Bailey with Dale Robertson, Road to Bali with Bing Crosby, Against all Flags with Errol Flynn, South Pacific Trail with Rex Allen, pony Soldier with Tyrone Power, Prisoner of Zenda with Stewart Granger, The Stars and Stripes Forever with Clifton Webb and The Stooge with Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis.
On Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Meirowsky celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. At the 8:00 O'clock Mass in the St. Patrick's Church they renewed their marriage vows in the presence of the pastor, Father Francis Devine.

The opening ball game of the 1928 season for the Florence baseball club registered a victory over the Wichita Tigers, one of the best amateur teams in this section of the state. The score was 8 to 5.
Ben Abels, who last year purchased the ground occupied by the Florence Golf Course is just completing resanding of the greens and rebuilding the tees. The course is now in the best shape it has been in for several years. Mr. Abels has spent a lot of money fixing up the grounds for the local golfers and no doubt there will be a large membership this year.

The City Council met in regular session Monday night with His Majesty presiding, and Councilmen Kates, Alexander, Jones and Corle present. The committee on health was authorized to have notices printed and sent to property owners, notifying them to put their premises in a cleanly, sanitary condition. Not a bill was presented, it being the first time this has occurred for over five years.
A gentleman is traveling over the northern part of the state giving lectures that the world is flat and stationary and the sun goes around the world once every day. He claims he can prove it. He also contends that no star is more than three inches in diameter, He claims he can prove this, too.
