The honor roll for the Florence Middle School for the third nine weeks has been announced: 7th grade, Cindy Heerey, Stephanie Loney, Larry McGahee, Lisa Richmond, Linda Robinson, Marcia White. 8th grade, Donna Berg, Mickey Costello, Margaret Dyck, Alice Hockensmith, Rod Just, Debbie Kreutzman, Mary Medina, Jami Shirley, Joella Smith, Jon Wiebe, Lorraine Wiens, Loreen Wiens, Stan Williams.
The Chamber of Commerce met Monday night. It was decided to have 3,000 brochures made up to promote Florence. In other business, it was voted to improve the appearance of the Chamber building by remodeling the front with hopes of the work being completed by Memorial Day weekend.

APRIL 16, 1953
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Waner of Florence were large winners at the county Hereford Show held Marion April 10. They showed the Grand Champion Bull and also won the trophy and plaque on Get of Sire. Alfred Waner showed two head of junior yearling bulls. The pair won a blue ribbon and one of them also won the blue ribbon in his class. Donnie Waner won a blue ribbon on his 4-H calf.
Playing this week at the Mayflower Theatre are: "Apache Rose" starring Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, "Romance and Rhythm" starring Kenny Baker, "Dreamboat" starring Clifton Webb and Ginger Rogers, "Tropic Zone" starring Ronald Reagan, and "Carson City" starring Randolph Scott.

APRIL 12, 1928
John Mack, publisher of the Newton Kansan-Republican was in Florence Tuesday afternoon to get his Ford truck which was stolen from in front of the Kansan office late Monday night. The truck was found west of Florence out of gasoline. No trace of the thief was reported.
Last Wednesday afternoon, during the heavy wind storm and rain, a cattle shed on the Stovall farm six miles southwest of town was blown down. Two oil derricks and the windmill were also demolished.

APRIL 16, 1897
On a Kansas train, a man was in the custody of an officer. When the conductor came around, the officer was absent. The fellow did not have any fare so the conductor put him off the train and the train sailed away.
It is said that some artistic and varied performance in the way of profanity was the rendition of a Kingman County man the other day when he upset his wagon loaded with 60 dozen eggs.
