Written comments about feedlot need March 4 postmark

KDHE district environmental administrator Rick Brunetti confirmed the deadline for any correspondence regarding the expansion of Clarence Busenitz's feedlot southwest of Peabody is March 4. To be considered by KDHE, all written comments must bear a postmark of March 4 or earlier.

KDHE has approved the expansion of the feedlot, but KDHE regulations also require a 30-day period when people may comment on the plan. If KDHE receives enough comments to indicate significant opposition to the expansion, a public hearing will be held to determine whether or not to allow the expansion to proceed.

March 4 ends the 30-day period in which citizens may protest.

Brunetti told the Peabody Gazette-Bulletin the address for all correspondence is: Kansas Department of Health and Environment, Bureau of Water, Livestock Management Section, Curtis State Office Building, Suite 420, 1000 S.W. Jackson, Topeka KS 66612.
