Women's fair is a success
Peabody Main Street's first "How Does YOUR Garden Grow" series was enjoyed by all who attended. And for those of you who were not able to make it, yes, there really is a recipe for linoleum!
Marilyn Holt's presentation on "Linoleum, Better Babies, and the Modern Farm Women" was interesting, informative, and humorous. We learned much about how the role of women in their homes at the turn of the century were looked at from a "scientific" approach. We also were left wondering if any Peabody residents are the proud recipients of "Better Baby" certificates.
The "Herbology" presentation definitely was a favorite, with master gardener, Kay Neff, showing and describing several varieties of herbs. Don't forget to water your marjoram, ladies.
Peabody's Shirley Davis gave an excellent presentation on "Relexology and Aromatherapy." We learned that by massaging our hands and feet, we can impact our entire body. She gave us a cream with our choice of an essential oil, which we learned also has healthy physical benefits.
The "Ribbon Flower Daffodils" were presented in a staged process allowing everyone to make their own flower. Connie LaRue's calm and patient manner came in very handy with the many questions and help required from a room full of women. Most were quite pleased with their results and proudly displayed them as pins.
The music of harpist Jane Hawkins was beautifully peaceful. It was enjoyed by all as they delighted in a delicious lunch prepared and served by the historical society.
The women's fair committee should be proud of the fine job they did putting this project together. Their efforts resulted in a day to be remembered by all the women who attended.
Evaluations are in and being looked at for the next women's fair entitled "Sunflowers, Scents, and Sorbet," which will be held Aug. 2. Watch for details.
