Women's fair is a sell-out

The Peabody Main Street Association's "How Does YOUR Garden Grow? Traditions Spiced with Thyme" women's fair on Oct. 20 was a tremendous success. The event was sold out for the first time with more than 50 women attending. Each attendee was given a goodie bag filled with samples from independent representatives, information about up coming events, and coupons for downtown merchants valid for one week. The tables were decorated by Don's Drugs with merchandise from the store.
Marilyn Jones, queen historian, gave an informative presentation about the transition of kitchen gadgets with gadgets from her own kitchen.
Using items from Jackrabbit Hollow and tables borrowed from Baker's Furniture and Mayesville Mercantile, Lois Friesen demonstrated how to decorate your table for a Sunday brunch. Before lunch attendees shared special stories about an apron which they brought to show.
The afternoon presenter was Susie Haver from Concordia. Haver presented "Aprons: The Great American Cover-Up." Her enthusiasm and knack for story telling kept the women entertained and intrigued.
Peabody-Burns High School cheerleaders volunteered all day helping with various aspects of the day. The girls helped prepare and serve lunch and helped clean up after the event.
The "How Does YOUR Garden Grow?" women's fair is organized by Peabody Main Street Association's Promotion committee. Members include: Beth Eldridge, Chair, Mary Avery, Shirley Beisel, Leslie LaFoy, Sharon Pickens, and Rose Till.
The event was sponsored in part by Baker Furniture and Carpet, Don's Drug, Jackrabbit Hollow, Marshall Auction, W.E Avery Insurance, and Peabody Main Street Association.
The next women's fair is April 19, 2008.
