With two more victories Sept. 20, Hillsboro High School volleyball team improved to 4-0 in the Mid-Central Activities Association, and 12-2 overall.
This time it was the Hesston Swathers who ran into the Trojan brick wall.
Playing at home, Hillsboro dropped the first match, 25-23, but fought back for a 25-13 dominating game-two victory, and a 25-20 match-clinching victory in game three.
"That second game was one of the best we've played all season," head coach Sandy Arnold said. "We were very aggressive and hit the ball well."
Junior Julieann Chisholm led the Trojans with 16 kills in the match, but Arnold knows every victory is a team effort.
"I've got six girls who can really hit the ball," she said. "And that's been awesome."
Arnold credited Laura Skiles, Jess Heidel, Tina Frick, and Amy Neufeld, for contributing in the victory.
All of the Trojans continued to hit in the second match, sweeping the Swathers, 25-20, 25-23.
The team also served and passed well.
"Our girls in the back row are making the passes," Arnold said. Senior defensive specialist Tiffany Knaak anchored the back row in the Hesston victory.
Arnold said Laura Lindsay and Jenny Whisenhunt are setting the hitters up well this year.
"Laura is doing a great job at the quarterback position and becoming a team leader," Arnold said.
Overall, Arnold said her whole team is contributing to victories, and while the talent is there for another state run, it will take more to get there.
"We're starting to trust each other out there," she said.
The Trojans played Smoky Valley Tuesday on the road, and will play Saturday in the Canton-Galva tournament.
"It will be loaded," Arnold said of the tournament. "We'll find out what we are really made of."
