Wichita group to present band concert Sunday
Senseney Music Community Band will present a free concert at 7 p.m. Sunday in Santa Fe Park, downtown Peabody. The performance is part of a summer music program sponsored by Peabody Main Street.
Bill Johnson, director of the group, noted that the musicians present concerts in many area communities during the summer months and later in the year during the holiday season.
"We have been to Newton, Cheney, Iola, and Valley Center this year, just to name a few of our performance sites," he said.
They frequently perform at Botanica in the spring and next year will add the Dyck Arboretum to their schedule.
The community band, organized by Johnson, has been together for 17 years and plays a variety of music, from rousing Sousa marches to show tunes and popular songs.
"There will be something for everyone," said Johnson.
Local musicians Julia Ensminger, Steve Hamous, and Koni Jones will participate in the concert.
The program is free, but the Peabody Historical Society will be selling homemade ice cream. Attendees are reminded to bring lawn chairs or blankets.
