Whitewater fire district plans hog roast
The July Fourth holiday is rapidly approaching. It is the time for family outings and fireworks. Chief Andy Pullen of the Whitewater River Consolidated Fire District suggests you be aware of the safety rules for fireworks and the types that are allowed in Whitewater and Butler/Harvey counties.
The fire department is having its second annual hog roast July Fourth at the Scout House. Thanks to the great support last year, the district was able to purchase a second AED for Elbing. This year they are raising money to purchase some special radio equipment for the trucks.
The public is invited to stop at the Scout House, enjoy the hog roast, take a look at the newest truck, and learn more about the proposed radio equipment.
Chief Pullen reports responding to six calls in May. There were two medical emergencies, one mutual aid with Newton, one utility pole fire, one motor vehicle accident, and one false alarm. Of these calls, two were in Whitewater, one in Fairmount Township, one was out of district, and one was in Milton Township.
A drill was held May 7 in Whitewater. Brian Johnson led a team of members in demonstrating additional hydraulic rescue equipment. Pullen and Rich Parsons instructed members on tanker filling/dump tank operations, pumping/drafting with Engine 81 and hose line techniques.
The May 21 drill was held in Elbing. Members completed truck checks and made a decision on the proposal to the fire board on hydraulic rescue equipment.
