Weber descendants hold second reunion

Descendants of Gottlob and Ida Weber met Sept. 19 for their second reunion at Peabody Senior Center.

A total of 50 relatives attended. Although none of Gottlob and Ida's 14 children are living, 14 grandchildren, spouses, and siblings attended. Mary Olson arranged the reunion with the help of her nieces, Janet Post, Brenda Riggs, and Jennifer Sevart. Those attending spent the day visiting, sharing photos, taking pictures, and laughing at the antics that happened during their youth or maybe not so long ago.

The highlight of the day was the distribution of the Weber family cookbook. Jenny Margrave started gathering recipes for the cookbook shortly after the 2004 reunion and spent many hours compiling the family recipes. Everyone is grateful for her efforts.

The cookbook is a book of treasured memories brought back to mind while reading family recipes. Recipes include Weber family favorites like Grandma's molasses cookies and coffeecake, Aunt Minnie's popcorn cake, Aunt Lydia's peanut butter cake, Aunt Tena's "feuding" coconut pie and grapenut ice cream, Aunt Ruby's honey cupcakes, Aunt Reeta's peppernuts, raisin cream pie, and barbecue chicken, and Aunt Hannah's lime Jell-O salad. Common recipes which bring back memories include bologna gravy, fried potatoes, meatloaf, and creamed butter beans. A less common recipe is included for Aunt Ruby's soap. Family members will be glad to share their cookbook with anyone interested in getting in on some of the "secret" family recipes.

Attending from out-of-state were Lloyd Austin of Afton, Okla., Betty McCarty and Terri Kessler of Edmond, Okla.

Donna Chance and Kathryn Crenshaw of Enid, Okla., Mike and Judy Fugett of Dunanville, Texas.
