Warriors take fourth at tournament

A first-round victory Dec. 5 against Caldwell put the Warriors in the winners' bracket of the Great Eight Tournament. PBHS then met Oxford Friday and was defeated 92-72. On Saturday, the Warriors took on Argonia and suffered a second tournament loss, 63-55. Up next is a trip Friday to Little River.

The Caldwell/PBHS contest was all Warriors from the start. PBHS took the lead at 4-2 and never trailed again in the game. Many substitutions were made throughout both halves. Jacob Simmonds led the first quarter scoring with five. Todd Woodruff, Aaron Burnett, Duane Unruh, Trevor Hamm, Cole Welsh, and Derrick Simmonds each scored a basket for PBHS.

The lead at the end of the first quarter was 17-6.

Warrior offense continued to build on the lead with points from nine Warriors in the second period. D. Simmonds had five. Hamm, Unruh, Welsh, Andrew Loucks, Adam Benson, Jake Middleton, and Aaron Topham all added two points. J. Simmonds put in a free throw. The halftime lead was 37-9.

In the second half, the Warriors posted 33 points and went on to the big first round win. D. Simmonds led the scoring with nine. Middleton added two treys. Nathan Bishop and Burnett had four points each. Benson and Unruh put in three each. Woodruff and Welsh added a basket each.

Oxford

Early in game two, the PBHS Warriors were tied with Oxford 4-4. The Wildcats then went on an 18-0 run to put the Warriors behind 22-4. The first quarter ended with the Warriors trailing by 23, 29-6. Unruh had four and Loucks had a basket.

The Warriors managed to cut the Wildcat lead to 18 at the half, 48-30, adding 24 points in the second quarter. Middleton had nine. D. Simmonds added five. Hamm put in four. Bishop, Benson, and J. Simmonds each had two.

PBHS offense came as close as 13 before the Wildcats ran away with the game and handed the Warriors a second round loss. Second half scoring was led by D. Simmonds with 18. Unruh had seven. Burnett added six. Bishop had four. Hamm had three. Woodruff and Benson added two each.

Argonia

Game three for PBHS was against Argonia Saturday. The Warriors trailed by four at the end of the first quarter, 18-14. Argonia pulled away from the Warriors throughout the contest to lead by as many as 15, but the Warriors were able to come back to within five in the fourth quarter. Argonia held on for the win, 63-55. The Warriors committed 32 fouls in the game which translated to 30 points for Argonia from the free-throw line.
