Warriors suffer losses on opponents' courts

Peabody-Burns High School Warriors were defeated twice this week in competitions on the road. They were defeated Tuesday by Remington, 77-60. On Friday, they lost to Bennington, 71-50. The team has one more regular season game at Berean before preparing for sub-state play.

Remington

Warrior offense played well in the first quarter against Remington. Six Warriors scored and the PBHS squad led 21-18 at the end of the period. Nathan Bishop paced the team with six points. Derrick Simmonds added five. Duane Unruh had four. Todd Woodruff, Andrew Loucks, and Aaron Burnett each added a basket.

Remington took the lead in the second and Warrior offense slowed to only 12 points. Woodruff had five. Simmonds made four and Bishop added three. The halftime deficit was eight, 41-33.

Warrior offense sparked early in the third and came to within a basket, 46-44, with five minutes on the clock. Bronco offense built a 10-point lead, but the PBHS perimeter game cut the margin to four by the end of the quarter, 59-54. Simmonds led the third period with three treys. Woodruff had two treys and Bishop also added a trey. Unruh sunk a basket and Burnett contributed a free throw.

With only six points in the fourth, PBHS could not challenge the Broncos. Simmonds had four points and Loucks had a basket. Remington scored 18 in the final period to take the win.

Bennington

PBHS offense struggled in the first period of play against Bennington. Quick hand and good defense by the Bulldogs forced many Warrior turnovers. Scoring only eight, PBHS was down 13 at the end of the quarter, 21-8. Simmonds had four. Adam Benson and Unruh each added a basket.

Second quarter scoring improved, but Bulldog defense continued to intimidate the Warriors. At halftime, the score was in favor of Bennington, 41-22. Benson and Bishop each had five in the second. Unruh and Loucks each added two.

Warrior offense added 28 in the second, but the Bulldogs remained in control of the game and defeated PBHS, 71-50. Simmonds paced the team with 16. Jacob Simmonds had four. Bishop, Burnett, and Benson had two each. Unruh and Woodruff each made a free throw.
