Warriors suffer first losses of season

Three road games were on the schedule this past week for the Peabody-Burns Warriors. The Warriors came up short in two contests, losing to Burrton on Jan. 6, 61-52, and to Moundridge on Friday, 77-54.
The team bounced back Saturday against Tescott with a 50-49 win. Now 6-2 on the season, the Warriors face two league foes at home, Sedgwick on Tuesday and Little River on Friday.
At Burrton, the offense was cold in the first quarter only putting in eight points. Caleb Good opened the scoring for the Warriors from the free throw line. The Chargers took the early lead, 14-8.
The Warriors worked the defense to close the gap in the second. The offense added 13 points. Isaac Good led the second with two treys. Michael Unruh added four and C. Good put in three. The Warriors cut the Charger lead to three, 26-23 at the half.
Warrior offense again went flat after the half. The PBHS squad only put up eight in the period. Mario Nava had four. Adam Carroll and C. Good added two each. The Charger lead grew in the third, 45-31.
The PHBS offense came alive in the fourth with all five starters adding 21. The Chargers however, kept up the pace and defeated the Warriors 61-52.

The Warriors had a tough start at Moundridge with the offense not generating anything. Caleb Good put the first Warrior points on the board with a three, with just under three minutes left in the first. The Wildcats went on a run of three-pointers to give the Wildcats the lead 25-10 at the end of one.
The Warriors put up slightly better numbers in the second, but the Wildcats led by 23 at the half, 47-24. C. Good had five in the quarter followed by Mario Nava with four.
Adam Carroll put up the first two for the Warriors in the second half. The gap widened and the Wildcats went up 63-39.
The outside assault of the Wildcats was too much for the Warriors throughout the contest. The Warriors were defeated by the Moundridge team, 77-54.

The Warriors were in Tescott Saturday for the final round of play in the Bennington Tournament.
The game began with two treys from Caleb and Isaac Good. Turnovers were big for the PBHS squad. The Warriors were behind by four at the end of the first, 16-12. Adam Carroll added three, Mario Nava put in two, and Job Hilliard sank a free throw.
The second quarter was better for the Warriors. An assist from Jason Carroll to A. Carroll tied the teams with four minutes in the quarter. Then the Warriors pulled ahead 28-20 to take the eight-point lead to the locker room.
The Warriors maintained the level of play in the third quarter to stay ahead of the Tescott team. The lead was nine, 40-31, at the end of the period.
The game tightened late in the fourth. With 57 seconds left the Tescott team came back to tie the Warriors. The Warriors went down by one with 22 seconds on the clock. I. Good put in a two, to put the Warriors up by one, 50-49.
The Warriors played tough defense to take the victory over Tescott. Both the Warrior varsity team and the Warrior junior varsity team placed first in the tournament.
