Warriors still undefeated after win over Moundridge

With only a few seconds remaining on the clock, the Peabody-Burns High School boys' basketball team defeated the Moundridge Wildcats, 43-40, Friday night.

One more league match-up with Berean Academy is on the schedule Tuesday before Christmas break.

Early turnovers plagued both squads. Derek Benson scored first for the Warriors with a free throw three minutes into the contest. The PBHS squad took a five-point lead, but the Wildcats battled back to within two at the end of the first period, 12-10. Isaac Good had two treys and a free throw to pace the team. Jason Carroll and Nathan Hittle had two each.

The Warrior' perimeter game continued with two treys from Bryan Swenson and one from Derrick Simmonds. The Warrior inside game also picked up in the second with Christian Bengtsson adding four. Carroll also contributed a basket. Warrior defense held the Wildcats to seven and the gap at the half was 10, 27-17.

The Wildcats made some second half adjustments to tighten up the contest. Bengtsson scored two buckets on the inside and Good put in two. The Wildcats put up 12 to make it a four-point contest at the end of the third.

Bengtsson hit the first points in the fourth. The Wildcats closed the gap and the teams were all even at 37 with just under three minutes left in the game. Carroll and Hittle each hit a two to give the Warriors a four-point edge. The Wildcats answered with a free throw and a basket to make the gap one, 41-40. With less than 10 seconds on the clock, Good hit two free throws to make the final, 43-40.
