Warriors stay undefeated with homecoming victory

Staff writer

Not even the driving rain Friday night could stop the Warriors from collecting their 2007 homecoming victory.

Peabody-Burns High School defeated Sedgwick 18-2, and will play Friday against 4-0 Remington.

A large crowd came to watch the fourth-ranked Warriors as they started the game with the ball.

The drive stalled in Cardinal territory, and the Warrior defense entered the game.

PBHS held Sedgwick and forced a punt.

Andrew Loucks got a hand on the ball for a partial block, and Jacob Simmonds set up the Warrior offense at mid-field.

A first-down run by Ben Eldridge moved the chains for a new set of downs.

Elliott Spectenhauser and Trevor Hamm ran for yardage to set up a third-and-two at the Cardinal 24-yard line.

In pouring rain, Spectenhauser ran on third down and came up just short.

On fourth down, Brandon Pickens caught a 15-yard pass from Nathan Bishop to earn the first Warrior score.

Will Pratt added an extra point and the Warriors led 7-0 with four minutes, 20 seconds left in the first quarter.

Solid defense combined with a heavy rain controlled the offensive game of both squads throughout the first quarter.

The next score in the game was set up by a Pratt punt that rolled dead at the Cardinal one-yard line.

The Warriors added a safety on the next play and led 9-0 with 9:59 left until half time.

With a brief respite in the rain, Warriors scoring continued in the second quarter with a short drive that was set up by Hamm on a punt return.

From the Sedgwick 26, Hamm ran left to move the sticks to the 11.

Spectenhauser gained six on first down, Bishop carried for two on second down, and on third-and-two from the four, Hamm found the end zone.

Pratt added an extra point, and the Warrior lead was 16-0 with five minutes to play in the first half.

The Warrior defense pushed the next Cardinal drive in reverse. From their own nine-yard line, the Cardinals were sacked in their end zone, building the score to 18-0 with just less than two minutes to play until the half.

Shortly after the half, the rain began again and continued for most of the remainder of the game.

Warrior defensive plays were made by Hamm, Brandon Pickens, Nick Abramowich, Eldridge, Bishop, Thomas McGee, Sean Corona, Loucks, Adam Benson, and Anthony Jones.

The only Cardinal score came in the fourth quarter when Sedgwick tackled Bishop in the end zone for the third safety of the game.

The final score was 18-2.

Bishop was 4-10 through the air for 38 yards and one score.

Pickens caught two passes for 30 yards, and touchdown, while Eldridge hauled in two catches for eight yards.

Spectenhauser carried 10 times for 64 yards, while Hamm had 41 yards on 16 rushes and one touchdown.

Simmonds and Pickens both recorded interceptions, while Jones and Pratt each had a fumble recovery.

Abramowich led the team with 7.5 tackles.

Pratt had seven, Bishop five, Eldridge 4.5, Pickens 3.5, Benson three, Simmonds 2.5, Loucks two, Hamm 1.5, Jones 1.5, Mcgee 1.5, Corona one, and Jones one.
