Warriors see overtime action

Warrior fans were treated to two exciting overtime league match-ups this past week.
The Peabody-Burns High School Warriors lost Tuesday to Sedgwick, 64-62. The Warriors were victorious Friday over Little River, 54-47.
Up next for the Warriors is the Burrton Tournament with a Monday match-up with Central Christian. The Warriors also will play Thursday and Saturday.
Both teams played even from the start of the Sedgwick-PBHS contest. Isaac Good got on the board first with an offensive rebound put back for two. Good added four more in the first quarter, with Michael Unruh putting in five. Caleb Good chipped in two and Mario Nava added a free throw. The Warriors were down by two at the end of the period, 16-14.
The lead went back and forth in the second period with the Warriors coming out on top at the half, 28-25. Michael Unruh scored nine of his game-high 27 points in the second quarter.
The Warriors couldn't shake the Cardinals in the third period. Both teams again went basket for basket for an all-even finish to the quarter, 42-42.
Unruh netted a three to take the lead midway through the fourth quarter, 45-44. The Warriors built a seven-point lead but the Cardinals chipped away at the margin. With three seconds left on the clock, the Cardinals put in a three to tie the game at 55, and send the game into overtime.
Both teams continued to trade baskets in the extra period. Nava scored first for the PBHS team. Unruh turned a steal into the next Warrior score to put it all even at 59. C. Good hit a two for 61 all. Unruh added one from the line to give the Warriors 62, but the Cardinals had one more basket before the buzzer, ending the game, 64-62.

Little River
The Warriors faced another league foe with an even contest against Little River. A very physical first quarter ended knotted at eight. Warrior scoring was two each from Michael Unruh, Mario Nava, Isaac Good, and Jason Carroll.
The rough tone of the game continued in the second period with intense defensive pressure from both teams. Unruh put in a three to open the second quarter scoring for PBHS. C. Good paced the Warriors in scoring with five free throws and two baskets. The Warriors were down by two at the half, 24-22.
Defense for both squads attacked the ball in the third quarter. Adam Carroll, Derek Benson, Tyler Litton, Job Hilliard, and Nava beefed up the defensive pressure for PBHS throughout the game. C. Good put in a lay-up with five seconds left in the period to make it all even at 31.
Seven of the 13 points in the fourth quarter for PBHS came from the free throw line. The Warriors were able to build a four-point lead, but the Redskins came back to tie the game at 44, at the 35-second mark. A couple of turnovers and a late skirmish for the ball left the score at 44-44, and the game went into overtime.
Warrior defense came up huge in the extra period, holding the Redskins to only three points. In the overtime period, all 10 points for PBHS came from C. Good. Good scored one basket and eight from the free throw line. The Warriors took the win, 54-47.
