Warrior basketball suffered two losses this past week with a road loss Tuesday to Sedgwick, 69-49; and a Friday home loss to Little River, 77-58. The team will compete next in the Burrton Tournament.
The Sedgwick/PBHS match-up began rough and physical with 14 total fouls committed by both teams. Derrick Simmonds led the first quarter scoring with nine, with his last two points coming at the end of the period from free throws due to a Cardinal technical foul. Todd Woodruff added a trey and two baskets. Nathan Bishop had a basket. The Warriors were down by one at the end of the quarter, 19-18.
Cardinal offense flew away with the second quarter, scoring 21 points. Warrior offense put up 13, but the PBHS deficit grew to nine at the half, 40-31. Duane Unruh paced the team with seven. Trevor Hamm and Aaron Burnett got into the scoring with a basket each. Simmonds and Bishop each added a free throw.
A third quarter surge by the Sedgwick offense was too much for the Warriors. PBHS committed 10 fouls and the Cardinals capitalized with many trips to the free-throw line. PBHS offense added only six points, four from Simmonds and two from Unruh. The Cardinal lead grew to 18, 55-37.
Warrior offense continued to struggle in the fourth. Hamm put up four. Jake Middleton had three. Burnett and Andrew Loucks each added a basket. Adam Benson contributed a free throw.
