Staff writer

Peabody-Burns Warrior football team scored another big win Friday. The team beat the Remington Broncos on the road, 49-0. The Warriors now are 5-1 on the season and have been listed by The Wichita Eagle as a 2A team to watch.

The first drive for the Warriors ended in a punt that was muffed by Remington and recovered by the Warriors. The Warriors then went to work from the Bronco 19-yard line.

Mario Nava, Chris Hamm, and Nolan Hurst did ground work to set up a second-and-goal on the one-yard line. Quarterback Caleb Good put the ball over the goal line for the score. The PAT was good and the Warriors took the lead 7-0 with 5:13 left in the first quarter.

A good defensive effort by the Warrior 11 forced the Broncos to punt. Nick Conquest fielded the ball and the next drive started from their own 49-yard line. Conquest had a huge gain on first down to earn another set of downs. Hurst carried on first and 10. On second and five, Chris Hamm ran 20 yards for the second Warrior score. A penalty on the first PAT attempt moved the ball back, but Hamm made the kick and the Warriors extended their lead to 14-0.

A surprise on-side kick attempt put the ball right back in the hands of the Warriors. Hurst, Hamm, and Good covered ground for the Warriors. With just 13.9 seconds left in the quarter, the Warriors went up 20-0 when Hurst punched the ball in for the touchdown. The PAT was good and the Warriors were up 21-0.

A good defensive stand held the Broncos and on a second and nine for the Remington team, Hurst recovered a fumble at the Bronco 35-yard line. The Warriors worked the passing game some on the drive. Nick Conquest scored from the 35-yard line with a run around the left side. The PAT was good and with 9:07 left in the half, the Warriors took a 28-0 lead.

An errant out-of-bounds kick-off put the ball on the Bronco 35-yard line for their next series. The Warrior defense held tight and forced a punt.

Kurt Phillips took over the quarterback position for PBHS and went to work from the 19-yard line. Hurst and Hamm ran the ball, but the drive was kept alive by two quarterback keepers by Phillips. Phillips scored from the one-yard line and the PAT was good. With this, the Warriors took a commanding lead of 35-0 to the locker room at the half.

The Warriors added two more scores in the second half. Philip Unruh blocked a punt to set up the first scoring drive from the Bronco 7-yard line. A penalty caused the Warriors to back up to the 22 yard line. On third and 22, Chris Hamm scampered into the end zone for the score. The PAT, once again, was good and the Warriors went ahead 42-0 with 9:36 left in the quarter.

The last score of the evening came for the Warriors by way of an interception by Hamm and a 27-yard run to the end zone. The PAT was good and the Warriors tacked on their last seven for the contest, 49-0.

The Warrior reserves saw quality time in the second half. A good defensive effort gave them a shutout for the evening and they earned their fifth victory of the season.
