Warriors roll over Remington

The PBHS Warriors rolled to a big victory over Remington Friday. Playing on their home field, the Warriors defeated the Broncos 67-16.
The Warriors came out ready on the first kick-off. Ryan Gaines covered a short Warrior kick down field to give the Warriors the ball at the Bronco 46-yard line.
The Warriors wasted no time on offense in setting up their first score. Mario Nava gained 19 yards on first and 10. At the 27-yard line Caleb Good passed to Michael Unruh for the Warrior score. The PAT was no good and the PBHS team went up 6-0 with 11:37 left in the first quarter.
Isaiah Eldridge and Brandon Crabtree stopped the Bronco return man on the kick-off at the Bronco 27. On third and seven of the series Adam Jones and Adam Carroll sacked the quarterback to force a punt. Nava fielded the punt.
Kurt Phillips earned the next Warrior score with a 19-yard run through the middle. Caleb Good ran the two point conversion and the Warrior lead was extended 14-0 at 9:11 in the quarter.
The Broncos went to the air on the next series, but the Warrior defense stopped the attack. Eldridge tackled the punter on fourth down to give the Warriors a short field to take offense.
The Warriors went to work at the Bronco 21-yard line. Caleb Good passed to Gaines for a gain of six on first down. A penalty pushed the Warriors back to repeat second down. On second and eight from the 20-yard line, Nava ran for the Warrior points. The PAT was unsuccessful. With 7:28 left in the first, the Warriors lead was 20-0.
Jones covered the Warrior kick-off to place the Broncos at their own 22-yard line. The Broncos had trouble with the Warrior defense and were forced to punt again.
The next series for the Warrior offense ended in another PBHS score. Caleb Good passed to Jonathon Foth. Foth caught the ball at the 12 and took it in for the score. Nava ran the two point conversion. The Warrior lead was 28-0 with 4:22 in the first quarter.
The Remington team earned several first downs on their next offensive series. The push by the Broncos started on their own 36-yard line and moved into Warrior territory. The drive was stopped by the PBHS defense with a fumble recovery by Gaines at the Warrior 46-yard line.
Phillips advanced the ball 33 yards on Warrior first and 10. Nava bounded to the left side for a 16 yard touchdown carry on the next play. Nava added the PAT. With 50.2 seconds remaining in the quarter the Warriors lead 35-0.
Early in the second quarter, the Warriors regained the football with a fumble recovery by Jones.
Another short field of play set up the next Warrior score. Gaines and Phillips moved the ball on the ground, but a penalty and an incomplete pass gave the Warriors a fourth and 11 from the Bronco 25. Phillips took the ball to the left side for a 22-yard gain. On first and goal from the three, Caleb Good ran a quarterback keeper for the score. Nava's PAT was good and the Warriors were up 42-0 with 8:44 left in the first half.
A defensive score put up the next touchdown for the Warrior squad. Isaac Good grabbed a Bronco pass and returned the ball 53 yards to the end zone. The PAT was successful and the Warriors lead was 49-0.
Warrior defense again held the Broncos with stops by Crabtree, Gaines, and Philips. On Bronco fourth and 14, Foth blocked the punt and Carroll recovered the ball at the Bronco 22-yard line.
With less than two minutes left in the half Nava took a pitch from Good to the four yard line. Phillips ran in the score. The PAT was no good and the Warriors took a huge 55-0 lead with 1:15 on the clock.
Chad Litton and Mike Gfeller stopped the Bronco return man at the Remington 32-yard line. The Broncos were unable to move the ball and the score at the half remained 55-0.
Because of the Warrior's large lead the clock ran continuously during the second half. The Warriors scored quickly with Nava taking the kick-off 80 yards for the score. The PAT was no good and with 11:26 in the third the Warriors were ahead 61-0.
Warrior reserves played much of the second half. Brian Baker recovered a Bronco fumble to set up the next offensive score for the Warriors.
Derrick Simmonds took over as quarterback, running the ball on first down. Baker gained eight on second down. On third and one, Isaac Good went 38 yards for the final Warrior touchdown of the contest, 67-0.
The Broncos were able to put up two scores in the fourth quarter. Two big runs by Jared Hyjing and Scott Ryan put points on the board for the Remington team.
Anthony Marple, Chad Litton, and Scott Gray were credited with stops in the second half. Gfeller, Baker, and Cole Welsh earned offensive yards in the half.
The Warriors defeated the Broncos 67-16. The Warriors are now 5-1 on the season.
"We rebounded from last week," stated Coach Chris Young. "We got a lot of things working. We made a lot of improvement."
"Our junior varsity was outstanding. They really stepped up their play. Our varsity was sharper this week, but we still need to fix our penalty problems."
A road game will take the Warriors to Hutch Trinity Friday night.
