Warriors record one loss, one win

The PBHS Warriors lost one and won one in home competition this past week. The team was defeated Tuesday by Hutch Trinity, 54-50. They bounced back Friday for a homecoming victory over Ell-Saline, 66-47. PBHS now will travel for the remainder of the season with games at Remington, Bennington, and Berean Academy.
Hutch Trinity
Warrior offense took control of the action in the first period against Hutch Trinity. They built a six-point lead, 12-6, before the Celtics charged back to within one at the end of the quarter, 12-11. Derrick Simmonds paced the squad with eight. Nathan Bishop and Duane Unruh each added two.
Early in the second, PBHS continued to score with an emphasis on perimeter shooting. The Warrior lead was as much as seven, but once again the Celtics cut the margin to one at the half, 25-24. Simmonds scored two treys. Bishop had a trey and a basket. Todd Woodruff also added a two.
The Warriors unraveled in the third, scoring only eight points and allowing the Celtics to add 17. The Warriors were behind by eight at the end of the period, 41-33. Woodruff, Simmonds, Andrew Loucks, and Adam Benson each scored a basket.
The Warriors came back to tie the game at 48-48 with less than three minutes to play in the contest. The Celtics managed to pull away in the final seconds of the game to defeat PBHS. Woodruff had two treys in the fourth. Simmonds added five points. Bishop and Benson each had a trey.

Ell-Saline
Warrior offense sprang out to a big lead in the first quarter against Ell-Saline. Unruh led the scoring with 10. Benson, Simmonds, and Loucks each added four. Swarming Warrior defense held the Cardinals to 10 and the period ended with a 15-point PBHS advantage, 25-10.
The perimeter game heated up in the second with treys from Simmonds, Bishop, and Woodruff. Bishop and Simmonds each added a two-point basket. Cardinal offense doubled first quarter production to put up 20 and cut the Warrior lead to 11 at the half, 41-30.
PBHS remained on top in the second half and they cruised to a solid victory. Simmonds put up 10 in the final half. Bishop added six. Woodruff had four. Benson and Brian Wingert each added two. Unruh contributed a free throw.
