Warriors overwhelm Halstead
Peabody-Burns Warriors were on the road to Halstead Friday, looking for their first victory of the season. The Warriors overpowered the Dragons and chalked up an impressive 19-7 win.
The next contest will be a homecoming match-up with Sedgwick.
The first quarter was a tough one for the Warriors with several opportunities to score, but the offense couldn't find the end zone. The Dragons did put up their only score of the game in the first period.
For the next three quarters, the Warriors took control of the game, settling into the offense with a score from Chris Hamm from the four-yard line. The PAT failed, but the Warriors were on the board. They were down by one at the half, 7-6.
A third quarter 27-yard touchdown run by Mario Nava gave the Warriors the lead. The PAT run attempt failed, but the Warriors claimed the lead, 12-7.
The defense played tough, denying progress from the Cardinal offense.
The final score of the night came from Chris Hamm who scampered 71 yards for the touchdown. The PAT by Hamm was good and the Warriors claimed a 19-7 victory.
"I was proud of how our kids played this game," stated Coach Chris Young. "Our team is just two clicks away from exploding."
Chris Hamm had 22 carries for 149 yards and two TDs. Mario Nava had seven carries for 58 years and one TD. Nolan Hurst carried 12 times for 63 yards.
Nick Conquest had six punts for 172 yards.
Several Warriors, including Adam Jones, Matt Kangas, Nick Conquest, Philip Unruh, and Caleb Good, had tackles on the Cardinals for lost yardage.
