Warriors notch three wins

Staff writer

The Peabody-Burns Warriors finished the season on a roll, winning three out of the last four games. The Warriors lost a close one to Inman, but posted impressive victories over Burrton, Moundridge, and Hutch Trinity. The Warriors finished 12-8 overall and now must prepare for a home court sub-state game on Tuesday.

Avenging an earlier loss to Burrton, the PBHS Warriors came out strong against the Chargers. The PBHS team established an early lead in the first quarter and held it throughout the game. Outscoring the Chargers in every quarter, the Warriors executed well in front of the home crowd.

"This was a tremendous win against a good opponent," stated Coach Clark. "The kids played well. It was fun to be a part of it and I think this game exemplified what team playing is all about."

The Warriors traveled to Inman for the Friday game. The PBHS squad fell behind by seven in the first quarter. They pulled almost even by the half, trailing by one, 26-25.

The rest of the game was close, but the Warriors couldn't capture the lead and were defeated by the Inman Teutons, 57-52.

"Our kids were fatigued, playing their third game in four days. It just took its toll," stated Coach Clark. "We simply didn't penetrate their zone and we had difficulty with the big kicks inside."

A good team victory came Tuesday for the Warriors with a road win over the Moundridge Wildcats. The scoring started with a bit of "razzle-dazzle" underneath from Steven Morgan.

The Warriors showed good patience on both ends of the court to lead the Wildcats by two, 12-10, at the end of the first quarter.

The Warriors then let loose and opened a 14-point lead at the half, 29-15.

Tommy Phillips scored a short jumper to open the third quarter. The Warriors had no trouble and coasted to a great team victory by the score of 60 to 40.

The last game of the regular season pitted the Warriors against visiting Hutchinson Trinity Celtics.

Senior Night starters were Daniel Unruh, Jared Lopez, Steven Morgan, Grant Klingenberg, and Tommy Phillips.

The Warriors took control early and never looked back. A rebounding assault lead by Tommy Phillips kept the ball in the hands of the Warriors.

Scoring 25 points in the first quarter, the Warriors blasted their opponent 25-12. Good team play and hustle propelled the Warriors to a big team win, 61-53.

"Tonight our kids did a great job on defense," said Coach Clark. "We held them to less than 12 in the first three quarters. We had a great first quarter, scoring 25 from seven different players."
