Warriors lose to Eagles, Teutons

Two road games produced two losses for the Warriors this past week. The PBHS squad lost a close one Jan. 30 to Canton-Galva, 61-59. The team was defeated Friday by Inman, 63-49.
The Warriors took on Hutch Trinity Tuesday and close out the week with a homecoming match-up against Ell-Saline.
A fast-paced first quarter in the Canton-Galva/PBHS contest ended with a Warrior deficit of 18-12. Derrick Simmonds put 10 on the board and Duane Unruh had a basket.
Better offensive play resulted in 19 points from the Warriors in the second period. Nathan Bishop led with nine. Simmonds had six. Adam Benson and Todd Woodruff each added two free throws. The Warriors were down five at the half, 36-31.
Warrior offense continued to gain momentum in the third. Four points separated the teams at the buzzer, 46-42. Benson had seven. Simmonds and Bishop each had two.
Warrior offense took the edge, 50-49, with a shot from underneath the basket from Simmonds. The lead changed five times in the remainder of the fourth. With less than a minute to play, several missed free throws by both squads left the game tied at 59-59. The Eagles made the game-winning basket with just seconds left on the clock and the Warriors lost a close one.
Simmonds had six in the final period. Benson had four. Jake Middleton added a trey. Hamm and Aaron Burnett each had a basket.

Inman
The Warriors were behind early against the Inman Teutons. With baskets by Hamm and Unruh and free throws by Simmonds, the Warriors came back to tie the score at four and also take a six-point lead, 10-4. Teuton offense fought back and claimed the lead, 13-12, with less than two minutes to play in the first.
Benson scored two free throws and Bishop shot a basket to regain the lead, 16-13, but the edge went to Inman at the end of the quarter, 17-16.
Warrior turnovers made in the second period gave the Teuton offense a boost and the advantage at the half, 31-25. Warrior scoring was Simmonds with seven and Benson with two.
In the third, the Warriors were down by 10, but cut the Inman margin to five by the end of the quarter, 42-37. Benson and Simmonds led the period with three each. Hamm, Bishop, and Unruh each scored two.
Warrior defense could not stop the offensive push by Inman in the fourth. The Teutons scored 21 points and defeated the Warriors, 63-49. Simmonds led with eight. Benson had a basket and Woodruff added two free throws.
