Warriors lose district shoot-out to Remington

In game two of District V play, Peabody-Burns High School Warriors were defeated at home by Remington, 54-31.
Now 1-1 in district, the team travels Thursday to Olpe.
Warrior defense held the Broncos on the first series of play. Nathan Bishop and Micah Hilliard made stops and the Broncos were forced to punt.
Warrior offense was halted on its first series with a punt on fourth-and-six. Remington put the first score on the board with 3:17 on the clock in the first quarter. The PAT was no good and the Broncos took the early lead, 6-0.
The Broncos put up the next score with a drive that started at the Warrior 41. From the PBHS three-yard line, the Broncos scored at 10:11 in the second quarter. They added two on the conversion and went up 14-0.
Derek Benson returned the Bronco kick-off to mid-field and the Warrior offense drove the ball 50 yards for a score. Bishop, Trevor Hamm, Todd Woodruff, and Hilliard all contributed to the yardage.
On first-and-goal from the Bronco six, Hamm went through the middle to put the Warriors on the board. The kick was good and the Warriors were down, 14-7 at 5:56 in the second.
Remington covered the field again, starting at their own 27. On first-and-goal at the Warrior six, the Broncos added a touchdown and an extra point. The Warriors were behind 21-7 with 1:35 left in the first half.
The Broncos put up two scores in the third and two in the fourth to make the score at halftime 47-7.
The Warrior offense took to the air with just under five minutes to play in the contest. Woodruff connected with Hilliard from the Bronco 32-yard line for the touchdown. Bishop ran for two and the Warriors cut into the Remington lead 47-15.
An on-side kick by the Warriors put the offense back on the field. Hamm ran for a first down. Mike Gfeller caught a pass to earn a first down. Three passes fell incomplete but on fourth-and-10 at the Bronco 19, Hamm ran right for the score. Woodruff ran for two and the Warriors were down, 47-13.
Another on-side kick was recovered by the Warriors and the team went to work again on offense. Bishop earned a first with an eight-yard run. Woodruff moved the sticks with two runs. A Bronco penalty gave the Warriors first-and-goal at the three.
Bishop ran on second down for the score. Bishop also earned the two-point conversion and the Warriors were on the board again, 47-31.
Remington added a touchdown late in the contest to take the final score to 54-31.
Woodruff was 8-22 in the passing game for 104 yards. Hamm rushed 12 times for 77 yards and two touchdowns. Bishop had 16 for 71 yards and one touchdown. Woodruff had 16 for 31 yards.
Hilliard caught three passes for 48 yards and one touchdown. Hamm caught two for 15 yards. Bishop caught one for 16 yards and Gfeller was one for 18 yards.
Tackles were recorded by Woodruff 13, Bishop 13, Hilliard 10, Benson 7, Gfeller 6, Eric Dutton 4, Hamm 3, Ryan Johnson 2, Derrick Simmonds 2, Andrew Loucks, William Pratt, Nick Abramowich 1 each.
