Warriors lose at home, win on road

The Warriors chalked up a loss and a victory this past week. They lost Dec. 12 to the Sedgwick Cardinals at home, 71-58. On Friday, the squad took a road trip to Little River and defeated the Redskins, 58-48. The team played Tuesday in a home match-up with Goessel.

In the first quarter of the Sedgwick/PBHS contest, the Warriors put up 14 points. Derrick Simmonds, Aaron Burnett, Duane Unruh, Todd Woodruff, Adam Benson, Trevor Hamm, and Jacob Simmonds each scored a basket. Warrior defense held the Cardinals to 10 and the lead was four, 14-10, at the end of the period.

The lead vanished in the second with Sedgwick coming back to attack the Warriors on defense. While the PBHS squad put up 16, the Cardinals added 20 to make the score even at 30 at the half. Simmonds paced the team with six. Nathan Bishop added four. Hamm, Benson, and Burnett each contributed a basket.

In the third, both teams took a turn with the lead, but late in the period, the Cardinals claimed the edge, 47-42. Simmonds scored four and Unruh, Bishop, Benson, and Hamm each added two.

The Cardinals built on the advantage in the fourth and the Warriors were defeated, 71-58. Bishop had two treys. Simmonds added three baskets and Hamm put up four points.

Little River

Little River offense overpowered the Warriors in the first period of play. Benson led the team with four and Unruh and Burnett each added a basket. Little River led 16-8 at the end of one.

Warrior offense made a move in the second, putting up 18. Warrior defense held the Redskins to 11. A late technical foul on Little River put the Warriors within one point at the half with two successful free throws by D. Simmonds. He scored 10 total points in the period. Unruh had six and Hamm added two free throws.

The third quarter started with an assist from Bishop to Simmonds and the Warriors took the lead for the first time in the contest. Late in the period, the PBHS squad led by four, 37-33, but the Redskins came back to tie the game at 37 at the buzzer. Unruh had five. D. Simmonds had three. J. Simmonds had two and Woodruff added a free throw.

Benson found the outside perimeter and put in two treys in the fourth. D. Simmonds came up big at the free-throw line, scoring eight of his 10 points from the charity stripe. Unruh added three and Hamm had a basket to give the Warriors the road win.
