A full week of basketball was played by the Peabody-Burns Warrior basketball team, with three games in the Burrton Tournament. The Warriors finished third, behind Burrton and Quivera Heights.
The Warriors now have a week off to practice for the next league match-up Jan. 29, at home against Burrton.
Game one in the tournament with the Berean Academy Warriors was a close one. Grant Klingenberg scored first for the PBHS squad. Chris Hamm and Steven Morgan added two each for a low scoring first quarter. The quarter ended with the PBHS Warriors behind by three, 6-9.
More points were scored in the second, but the Warriors had to climb back from a Berean run that had them down by nine.
Morgan hit a late three to put the PBHS squad ahead 19-18, but the Berean team scored once more before the half, making the half time score 20-19 in favor of Berean.
The PBHS team looked a bit tired in the third, only scoring nine points. The quarter ended 28-30, with the PBHS Warriors behind by two.
Scoring picked up late in the fourth, but the PBHS Warriors had to pick up the defense, being down by eight with a little over a minute left in regulation. Big three-point baskets were recorded by Daniel Unruh and Morgan to help the fourth quarter spree.
With only 10 seconds left in the game, Klingenberg, left unguarded scored two to bring the score to 48-all. A last second attempt by Berean fell short and the game went into overtime.
Good defensive pressure by the PBHS squad, lead by Nick Conquest, held the Berean team to a low scoring overtime period.
The Warriors got the win, 54-50.

Game two for the Peabody-Burns team started solid with the Warriors playing the host team, the Burrton Chargers. A good first half had the Warriors up 23-22 at the buzzer.
The Chargers spread the score with big play underneath in the next quarter and the gap widened to 34-42, favoring Burrton, at the end of the third.
The fourth quarter had good scoring for the PBHS team, but adjustments made by the Chargers proved too much. The Warriors did, however, see good play from several of the reserves.
The Warriors lost to Burrton 51-66.

Third round action for the Warriors was a well-rounded team effort. They came out strong against Wichita Trinity Academy with good scoring and assist play among team members.
Good use of the bench helped the Warriors to a 34-17 lead at the half. Seven Warriors posted numbers in the half including Jared Lopez, Daniel Unruh, Tommy Phillips, Steven Morgan, Nick Conquest, Philip Unruh, and Caleb Good.
The second half opened with good team play from both teams and the gap narrowed to 48-39 at the end of the third quarter.
Lots of fouls throughout the game brought both teams to the charity stripe. Trinity came within five, but couldn't get any closer.
The Warriors chalked up a good team win, 71-62, and took third place in the tournament.
