Warriors edge Canton-Galva Eagles
Staff writer
The Peabody-Burns Warriors won a closely played contest Dec. 17 at Canton-Galva. The Warriors finally shook the Eagles and claimed their second team victory of the season, 46-35. Next up for the PBHS team is an away game against the Goessel Bluebirds.
The first quarter was a tight one with a couple of lead changes for both teams. The Warriors led at the end of the first 14-11, with scoring from all of the starting five.
The Warriors were able to keep momentum in the second, but the Eagles stayed close. Good play from the bench and good team effort gave the Warriors a four-point edge at the half, 25-21.
Some foul trouble and cold shooting slowed the Warrior offense, but they still clung to the lead by a score of 34 to 28 at the end of the third.
With just a little under six minutes to go in the contest, the Eagles pulled to within two with a big three-pointer. The Warriors answered the assault by putting on the pressure defensively and shooting well from the free throw line. The Warriors defeated the Eagles by a final score of 46-35.
"We played well, but we had some mental breakdowns and miscues," stated Coach Rob Holopirek. "It was good to see the kids hang in there and win a close game. It was great to see them make plays at the end of the game and get the win."
