Warriors chalk up two league victories

Staff writer

Peabody-Burns Warriors chalked up two league victories last week. The Warriors traveled to Pretty Prairie Tuesday and defeated the Bulldogs 52 to 27. They were on the road Friday and downed the Sedgwick Cardinals 51 to 41. Next up is a road trip to Burrton, then a home game with Berean Academy.

The Warriors opened the Pretty Prairie game a little sluggish after a long Christmas break. They only generated five points in the first quarter and trailed by two at the end of the quarter, 7-5.

The team overcame early foul trouble and cold shooting by increasing defensive pressure on the Bulldogs.

Better scoring in the second quarter gave the Warriors a two-point lead at the half, 15 to 13.

After the half time break, the Warriors came out on fire. A huge scoring surge by the PBHS squad put 16 unanswered points on the board. The Warriors were ahead 34-19 at the close of the third quarter.

The PBHS team continued their assault on the Bulldogs throughout the fourth quarter. A very fast-paced offense and quick defense gave the Warriors a big win with the final score, 52 to 27.

"We were pleased to get the win," stated Coach Rob Holopirek. "It was fun to watch the kids, especially in the second half. We showed a little of what we're capable of doing. We got into foul trouble, but made good adjustments to that. Also our young guys off the bench did a great job."

Sedgwick

The Warriors opened the game against the Sedgwick Cardinals with fast play and good rebounding. The Warriors lead by six at the end of the first quarter 12-6.

Scoring picked up halfway through the second quarter and the Warriors opened an 11-point lead 30-19.

A very physical third quarter brought the two teams closer, but the Warriors hung onto the lead 34-25.

Good team play for the PBHS squad gave the Warriors another league victory against the Cardinals 51-41.
