Warriors battle Little River

Staff writer

The Peabody-Burns Warrior basketball team got back to business Friday, hosting the Little River Redskins. A close game throughout, the Warriors took the lead late and hung on for the win, 46-40.

A first quarter, with some early missed shots, ended almost even with the Warriors leading 21-11.

Jared Lopez opened second quarter scoring on the inside. Little River, playing a slow deliberate game, took the lead in a low scoring first half, 24-21.

The Warriors stayed close in the third, but still trailed, 29-32, going into the fourth quarter.

A big three-point basket by Steven Morgan with four minutes to go in the ball game gave the warriors the lead, 36-34.

Caleb Good and Daniel Unruh added two each making the score 40-35. Grant Klingenberg took a charge to bring the ball back to the hands of the Warriors, causing the Redskins to start sending the PBHS men to the free-throw stripe. Jared Lopez, Steven Morgan, and Daniel Unruh all scored free-throws to bring the score to 46-40.

A tie-up on the ball allowed the Warriors a late possession, running out the clock; and the game ended, 46-40.

The Warriors are now 6-1 in Heart of America League play and 7-2 overall.

"You have to go back several years to find the last time we beat Little River," said Coach David Clark. "They (the Redskins) were very patient on offense, and when the game is slowed down, you have to take advantage of each possession. We missed too many lay ups, and we have to get better defensively.

"We were fortunate to come away with the win," he added.
