Warriors are sub-state runners-up
PBHS boys finish season with 17-6 record

Peabody-Burns Warriors were named 2A sub-state runners-up Saturday at Berean Academy. They finished their season with a 17-6 record.
The Warriors defeated South Barber, 61-44, Monday at home. Then defeated Remington, 51-49, Thursday at Berean before losing the championship game, 70-54, at the hands of Berean Academy.
In the South Barber contest, the Warriors took the early lead in the first quarter. PBHS defense held the Chieftains to six to lead by five at the end of the first, 11-6. Nathan Hittle put up seven to pace the Warriors. Brandon Crabtree and Derrick Simmonds added a basket each.
Warrior offense came up huge in the second, adding 21. Hittle put in eight. Simmonds had five. Christian Bengtsson and Isaac Good each had four. PBHS led by 16 at the half, 32-16.
PBHS offense continued to roll in the third. Simmonds had six. Jason Carrol put in four. Good and Hittle each had three. South Barber offense sparked and added 17. The gap was 15 at the end of the third, 48-33.
Hittle added five in the fourth. Good put in four. Bengtsson and Duane Unruh contributed a basket each.

Remington
PBHS offense went down by six to Remington, but fought back to within three at the end of the first quarter, 14-11. Unruh and Hittle had four each. Carroll added a trey.
Both offenses played well in the second quarter. Remington put up 19. PBHS answered with 17. Simmonds lighted up the scoreboard with four treys. Crabtree added two baskets and a free throw. The Warriors trailed by five at the half, 33-28.
PBHS took the lead for the first time in the contest at the five-minute mark in the third period. The lead changed once more before the Warriors took the four-point edge at the end of the quarter, 42-38. Simmonds added two more treys and a basket. Bengtsson added four and Crabtree chipped in two.
The Warriors held off a late surge by the Broncos. A last second game-tying Bronco shot rimmed out and the PBHS squad advanced to the championship game. Bengtsson, Unruh, Crabtree, and Derek Benson had four each. Hittle had a free throw.

Berean
PBHS fell behind by eight early in the first period but bounced back to within two of Berean at the end of the quarter, 14-12.
Bengtsson and Good put in four each. Crabtree and Hittle each had a basket.
The PBHS squad took the lead at the halfway point of the second quarter. Berean came back to claim the lead at the two-minute mark. PBHS trailed at the half, 29-23. Bengtsson had four. Good had a trey. Hittle and Carroll had a basket.
In the third period, PBHS got to within three with a basket from Crabtree. Berean offense answered and extended the lead to 44-32, at the end of the quarter. Crabtree had five. Bengtsson had three and Hittle added a basket.
Berean ball-handling took some time off the clock in the fourth. Warrior offense went on a scoring run and made a last effort to get back in the contest, closing to within six late in the fourth. Berean offense again answered the PBHS run and the Warriors lost to first-seeded Berean, 70-54. Good put in four treys and four free throws. Simmonds, Bengtsson, and Crabtree each contributed two.
