Wanda Van Tuyl
Wanda M. Van Tuyl, 79, died July 26, 2003, at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital, El Dorado.
Born June 11, 1924, at Shawnee, Okla., she was the daughter of William Elmer and Ida (Lee) Franklin.
She was raised and attended school in Oklahoma. On Aug. 23, 1942, she married Stanley Van Tuyl Sr. at Winfield. They made their home at Burns where Stanley was a rural letter carrier.
A homemaker, she was a member of Burns United Methodist Church and Burns Senior Citizens. She also was a member of the Rural Letter Carriers Association Auxiliary, of which she was a past state president.
After Stanley's retirement, they wintered in Texas. After his death in 1992, she continued to spend her winters in Texas.
She also was preceded in death by a son, Stanley Van Tuyl Jr.; a daughter, Barbara Bathfield; brother, El Wood Franklin; and two sisters, Pauline Love and Norma Brant.
Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Rosemary and Wayne Carnahan of Heathsville, Va., and Dawn and Bob Moews of Yates Center; a son, Jim Van Tuyl of Burns; daughter-in-law, Pat Van Tuyl of Cary, N.C.; son-in-law, Sydney Bathfield of Port Louis, Mauritius; a brother, Wayne Franklin of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at Burns United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Bush officiating.
A quartet of Arlo Koehn, Jerald Jantz, Stephen Koehn, and Mark Schmidt sang "Kneel At The Cross" and "On The Banks of Jordan I'll Be Waiting."
Soloist Becky Spinden sang "On Eagles Wings." Barbara Anderson was organist.
Casket bearers were Theodore Koehn, Mack Weber, John Spinden, Lou Anderson, Arlo Koehn, and Lowell Koehn.
Burial was in Pleasant Center Cemetery, rural Burns.
Memorial funds have been established with Medical Equipment Recycling Network (MERN) at Wichita or Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation.
