Volunteers needed to plan Peabody's future
By MARY ANN AVERY
Main Street Association president
The partnership of the city of Peabody and Main Street to develop a strategic plan for our community gives us a rare opportunity to stop and reflect on our past, present, and future.
We can appreciate the foundation that was carefully laid by our community's settlers. Our heritage of a beautiful city park, commitment to education, our churches, the wonderful buildings of native limestone in our downtown, and, especially, our sense of community, are some of the things that laid a foundation for Peabody's growth and continuity.
Our Main Street group has a strong and enthusiastic network of volunteers that are beginning to evaluate the present and develop a plan for the future.
Some of the areas that are being considered are new period lighting and landscaping for Walnut Street, a community center/auditorium, city facilities, youth program, walking/fitness trail, signage and entrance enhancement at both ends of town, better marketing of Peabody, infrastructure solutions, and development of Santa Fe Park.
This is an exciting time for Peabody. Come and be a part of this wonderful and unique opportunity.
We hope more volunteers will join us with their ideas, suggestions, and thoughts.
If you can't attend a meeting, but have an idea for developing Peabody, contact Joanna Brazil at the city building.
We need you. Be a part of Peabody's future.
