Versatile Salina musician to grace 60+ Learning In Retirement program years ago

Thad Beach, Salina, will present "Tunes and Tales of a Traveling Troubadour" Monday at the 60+ Learning in Retirement program. Beach, a versatile musician, will entertain attendees, simultaneously playing the guitar and harmonica.

Beach also will demonstrate the ukulele, jaw harp, kazoo and more. His repertoire includes Roaring 20s tunes, old-time hoe-downs, polkas, and original historical ballads.

The session will begin at 10 a.m. in the Wohlgemuth Music Education Center Lobby on the campus of Tabor College.

As a musician, songwriter and teacher, Beach has performed throughout the United States as well as at the International Folk Festival in Kent, England. His programs entertain and educate audiences, who range from schools and camps to libraries and cafes. Audiences of all ages enjoy his humor, wit, and easy-going style.

Beach's specialty lies in teaching children and adults how to put familiar aspects of their lives and communities into original songs. He has developed and conducted more than 200 week-long "Songsmith Songwriting Residencies," workshops in schools districts and local art organizations in Kansas, Iowa, and North and South Carolina.

Beach will be a featured musician in the Tabor's homecoming musical, "Big River," which highlights acoustic country and bluegrass music. He also will perform at other homecoming activities.

Older adults are invited to attend. Enrollment is $15 per person a semester, $28 per couple or $4 a session. In an effort to encourage participation, first-time visitors will be admitted free of charge. Registration and discount lunch cards will be available at the door.
