Sports reporter

The Hillsboro High School Lady Trojans lost their first softball game since the first week of the season, but still took three of four games this past week from Hesston and Haven.

The 3-1 week gives HHS a 14-2 record.

The Lady Trojans matched up May 2 with a tough Haven squad, wining the first game, 6-2.

Rachelle Goldsby scored the first run of the game for Hillsboro after singling in the third inning.

Jessica Klose then singled home Andrea Bina and Laura Lindsay for a 3-0 lead.

Three more runs in the fourth gave the Lady Trojans a 6-0 lead. HHS took advantage of two errors, a walk, and a single in the inning to increase the lead.

Lindsay allowed a run in the fifth and sixth inning, but settled down to earn the victory after giving up just two hits.

HHS recorded six hits, and Goldsby and Bina each scored two runs.

The Wildcats jumped ahead 1-0 in the first inning on of game two against Lady Trojan pitcher Jenesa Klose.

An Andrews sac fly in the second, and a RBI-single in the third from Jessica Klose gave Hillsboro a 2-1 lead.

Haven answered right back with two runs in the bottom of the third to reclaim the lead at 3-2. Two more runs in the fourth stretched the lead to 5-2 before HHS answered in the sixth with two runs of its own.

With two outs, back-to-back singles from Meg Jost and Amber King kept the inning alive. Goldsby then reached on a fielder's choice and Bina knocked a single and the lead was 5-4. Lindsay was then retired on a groundout to end the threat.

Hillsboro went 1-2-3 in the seventh, as its 12-game winning streak came to an end.

Bina was the star at the plate going 3-4 with a double and a run. The loss dropped the Lady Trojans to 12-2.

Their record improved to 14-2 Friday after two convincing victories against Hesston.

The Swathers made the first game respectable, falling 9-4, but the Trojans scored early and often to take the victory.

HHS scored two runs in the first highlighted by Jessica Klose's RBI-single. She added another in the second, as did Lindsay and Jandi Nikkel.

Two more runs on an error and a Jost single upped the lead to 7-1, and put away the Swathers. Hillsboro would score two more runs and allow three more, before the game ended. Lindsay picked up the victory on the mound.

Laura Skiles took to the mound in game two, and allowed just one run in a 12-1 blowout by the Lady Trojans.

A six-run third inning put the game out of reach. Lindsay's two-run single, and RBI-single from Jenesa Klose and Bina, gave HHS a 7-0 lead.

Bina recorded two doubles, a single, and a run scored, while Skiles, Lindsay, and Jessica Klose each scored two runs.

HHS played Tuesday at Halstead and Friday will host Sterling to close out the regular season.
