Sports reporter

In Phil Oelke's second go-around with the Hillsboro High School baseball team, the Trojans fought back for a second-game defeat of Hoisington to start the season 1-1.

The Trojans dropped the opener 7-1, but knocked eight hits in the second game during a 10-7 victory.

In game one number seven hitter Troy Frick recorded Hillsboro's only RBI with a single in the second inning.

Four other Trojans notched singles, but the five hits were all they could muster in the six-run loss.

Travis Riesen took the loss for Hillsboro after going three innings, surrendering seven runs, four earned, and striking out two.

Justin Moore, Chad Hughbanks, and Gavin Serene combined to pitch four shutout innings.

The loss dropped the Trojans to 0-1 in the Mid-Central Activities Association and 0-1 overall.

Game two was a different story as the Trojans' bats came out on fire. The first four batters scored for Hillsboro in the first inning.

Frick did the damage again for the Trojans, knocking in two with an RBI-double.

Leading 4-1 in the bottom of the third, the Trojans pounded out three more runs, this time with just one hit.

Aaron Stepanek led off with a walk, followed by a Hughbanks single. Moore then reached on an error allowing Stepanek and Hughbanks to score. A sacrifice fly by Lucas Hamm increased the lead to 7-1. The Trojans would give up six more runs, but added three of their own to take the game.

Frick picked up the victory on the mound going 2 2/3 innings, allowing four runs. Daniel Jost finished off the game going 4 1/3 innings surrendering just one unearned run.

Hughbanks and Frick led the team with two hits and two RBIs apiece.

Moore, Hamm, and Riesen each had one RBI, while Jost, Stepanek, Hughbanks, and Moore all scored two runs.

The victory improved the team's league and overall record to 1-1. After playing host Tuesday to Lyons, the Trojans play their third straight double-header Tuesday against Marion-Florence/Peabody-Burns.
